Delivered baby #3 just before I turned 38. I had been experiencing a little prolapse after baby #2. Baby #3 finished any muscle control I had left. I now have a severe vaginal prolapse and am constantly walking around with my insides coming out of that area.
The OB advised that a hysterectamy (sp?) would be the best option to help my situation. He said he could do it vaginally and just take out my uterus and cervix but leave my ovaries in. I'll be 39 in Aug. My aunt had a total hysterectamy at age 37 and she said I should just go ahead and have them do a total and just get the whole change of life over with. Any advice?
I'm completely fine with not having anymore children. I think that 3 is perfect for us, so I'm actually ok with the surgery. I'm just waiting until I am no longer bf Charlotte who is 13 mo right now and showing no signs of weaning.

I wouldn't be one to go for a full hysterectomy. In my experience, women who do, end up with more problems. Women who do partial, fair better.
If you do full, you'd have to look at what your hormone replacement options would be given your age. I've seen women who had full and do no hormone replacement therapies and it ain't pretty-they are miserable:( Find out from your aunt if she did any and/or what she experienced afterwards. My sister and a good friend of mine did a partial in her 30's, and they haven't had any issues.
((hugs))

I had an appointment this morning for my annual and discussed with dr. I have decided to keep my ovaries.
My prolapse is very severe. I have a bulge protruding out of my vaginal area sometimes the size of a fist depending on how long I've been standing and my activity. I found out today that it is mostly my cervix that is protruding, but that my uterus and bladder are also very low and when I cough they both come down considerably. I will be having my bladder lifted during the surgery as well and a slig put in to help keep it in place. Because of the severity removing my cervix and uterus is the best way to fix it. He said he could do a pessessary (or whatever that word is) but that it would most likely be more trouble than its worth. I am completely fine not having any more children and I think having the surgery will be a relief because right now I have a fear of getting pg and the whole situation getting much worse and it's already severe. I know I've said that word a lot but living with your insides coming out is not a good feeling physically or emotionally!!, and severe is exactly what it is!
