Everything I've found online say's they count differently if you've done I've with Retrieval and Transfer b/c your body doesn't realize that its supposed to be producing the HCG hormone until after the transfer. So when I've asked my doctors the dates they tell me are post transfer (example: Transfer on day Nov13... they tested on Nov 22 which they called DAY9)

Have you heard of this before b/c I'm very confused.

They said they were expecting HCG 50 on day 12... On Day9 I was 140... So they said when I went back on day 14 they would expect around a HCG 480... I was HCG 920.

I can't get them to tell me anything. I'd like to know more and have a better feeling if I'm having twins or not.

Does anyone have a chart for hCG values in twins? On day 13 after transfer/ 16 after retrieval, my hCG is 445. I'm thinking I may need to change styles of strollers!

Here is a link for HCG levels for IVFers: http://www.ivfer.com/hcg.htm#HCG%20Calculator

Remember that high hcg does not always mean multiples. I'm nervous myself, though...at 10dp5dt mine was 564!!

Good luck!!!!

I found the commonly used hcg chart to be nothing of help. Although I did not do IVF, when I was at 16dpo, my beta was 818. A week later it was over 10,000. At 6 weeks 3 days I had my first sono. One little baby, with a strong beating heart. My doc said all my levels were normal and healthy. According to that commonly used chart, I was worried about twins and/ordowns syndrome since my levels were "off the chart". At best, I thought I had ovulated a week early. No such luck! I hope this makes you feel better.

Hi-
I found this...
http://www.advancedfertility.com/earlypre.htm
the sample size was small but it just gives you a good idea that the range is huge.
At 7 days past 5 dt (so 12 dpo) mine was 95 (in the very high range). 3 days later- 10 days past 5dt it was 476. My dr. said they have seen singeltons and twins do this same thing. We must wait until the U/S in 2 weeks! I am going to go nuts!!

Two weeks after my first transfer my HCG was only 30. Come to find out I was havinf twins. I don't think HCG levels say that much about the number of babies you are having. This time my HCG was 31 on day 13, higher then with my boys but does it mean twins (or triplets) again? I guess I will know on Wednesday.

I have a question. This is my first pregnancy and I just found out last week friday 3.7.08--I got 2 positives at home and a positive blood test. They said my HCG level was 64. Then this past monday 3.10.08 yesterday. I went in for another blood test. My doctor called me and said that my HCG levels arent rising like they should. he said it was only in the 70's. I am supposed to be in my 5th week, and until yesterday I didnt feel that anything was wrong. I am freaking out because I have to wait until monday 3.17.08 for my next blood test and my first ultrasound. I feel all the symptoms of pregnancy except my breasts dont seem as sore as last week. Does this mean for sure i will miscarry or is there still hope. Did anyone else start off slow and still have a viable pregnancy?

I have been on Metformin and FABB due to MTHR for only a few weeks and had 2 positive blood tests. Last Monday, 9/29/08 2 positive blood tests. Wednesday October 1, 2008 positive blood test. HCG test results were 900 and then Friday October 3, 2008 was 1800. My reproductive doctor took my blood and noticed my progesterone levels were low so I have started Progresterone suppositories for the next 5 months. I have an Ultrasound next Wednesday hopefully to find a heartbeat...Best of luck..

Ok first time pregnant naturally---after 3 failed IVF cycles!! so my last menstral period was march 10th and usually have 26 day cycles with surging on around day 11.  Pregnancy test on what would have been day 28 bright two lines--beta at 3:30pm on monday 6 april was 207, next morning 350ish tues at around 7am, Wed around 1130ish it was 600s and then Thursday it jumped up to 1084!!! My infertility Dr said they are in normal ranges----so WHY do they say they are soupose to double every other day--mine almost double every day!!!!! I am having a ultra sound this coming up friday to see where the sac is.  Anyone else have levels like this?

congrads on your pregnancy first off!!!

The doubling thing is the bare minimum of what doctors would like to see in a pregnancy. Your numbers are normal and can indicate the following:

1. Multiples? Twins?
2. An absolutely normal pregnancy (my HCG was well over 14,000+ at 5.5 weeks with only one sticky bean)

Good luck!

Thank you! I have my first ultra sound this friday to look and see where the sac is--and if everything looks ok....and then in another week or two something we will do another one to find heart beat my infertility Dr said and then if all goes good he will release me to reg obgyn----I must say I am scared! and praying all goes well.

Hi there!

I have read and been told by a few sources that you cannot tell if you are having multiples by your HCG alone... you will have to wait until your ultrasound!  I was wondering the same thing due to the fact that i had a Day 3 Donor Egg Transfer of 2 embryos and i took an HPT two days ago and the line came up VERY stong... I don't have my blood test until tomorrow so i am hoping that everyone is right by saying i got my BFP!!!  My first ultrasound isn't until June 30 so i will be (im)patiently waiting the news of either twins or a singleton!!!

Congrats and good luck!!!

Betas are not really great at predicting singelton vs multiples since there is such wide variation.  Someone posted a link to a chart in this thread that shows me clearly in the twin track.. But according to this site I'm much more in line with singleton.  So who knows?
