Okay, I am 35 weeks 1 day today. I have had contractions all day today, with a lot of cramping and some back pain as well. They are not really consistent but have been going on all day. They started out just annoying and uncomfortable and then got a little more uncomfortable, with some being painful. I timed them a few times during the day to see where they were at. They would be 3 or 4 minutes apart, then would stretch out to 9 or 10, then back to 3. It was hard to time them because the cramps never really went away, but I would get a pain every once in a while (I'm assuming the peak of the ctx).

Well, I didn't call the dr. because I don't think it was the real thing and I hate calling the dr., lol. He would have had me come in to get monitored to tell me that they were nothing and send me home. Just a waste of my time. I did talk to my doula and she told me to pay attention to cervical mucous changes (I had been leaking last week and didn't know if it was amniotic fluid or urine, lol. It since changed to mucousy discharge, but not colored). She told me if the ctx continued throughout the day after I rested to call her back. Well, I wasn't able to rest. I was at work, so that wasn't an option. And, I come home to care for a 2 1/2 year old by myself, so again not an option.

So, I guess my question is (sorry this has gotten so long), at what point do I call the dr. to get checked? I don't want to go in to the hospital before i have to. I would prefer to labor at home. I am also having a VBAC, so if I go in and I am dilating and he makes me stay, my chances of natural labor go down a ton because I will be pinned to a bed and not allowed to walk around. Okay, thanks so much if you actually made it this far! I can't believe I typed so much! lol

Kristen - How are you doing today? I didn't see an update on our DDC...and believe me, I know this is a frustrating thing, not knowing if contrax are dilating you!!!

I had almost 6 weeks of what you're describing with my singleton, with progressive dilation during that time (I personally think that a day or two of those "irregular" contractions would dilate me, then I'd get a few days break, etc). Pre-labor is *not* false labor - I hate the term false labor, I like "toning contractions"!! My birth story is above, I think (Silas's birth story). I figured then that if I could go to sleep through them or if laying down and drinking a glass or two of water made them go away, I didn't need to get checked. Maybe you can try that...I was busy, too, with 2yo twins, so the resting never happened till evening, and they would subside. So maybe you can wait (if it happens again) and see how it is at night (then you can see if it's a more regular labor pattern).

Eventually I stayed at 5cm for a week then asked to go in (over 40 weeks) and have them break my water....12 hours later - a baby boy...

I think everybody is different so you have to listen to your instincts. Personnally is takes me days of those "fake" contractions to get anywhere. All I can say is that when it was time to go to the hospital I knew... especially with my 2nd. At some point it gets more regular and the pain goes up to a new level where all you can do is contract. Yeah, I didn't post on our board because I figured everyone would say, "call your dr." lol. And, I'm an anti call your doctor kinda gal. I want to call when necessary, but I am home alone at night with Emma so wouldn't have been able to go in anyways. The contractions got a little better last night, but never went away. I was able to sleep through them, so I am thinking they aren't the "real" thing. But, I had them all day again today. I am sure it is just early early labor, and it may go on for weeks. I just want to make it past valentines day and then I am 37 weeks and he can come anytime! Thanks for responding to my post! I will keep you posted! Oh, I love the term toning contractions! i will remember that one!

When "true" labor started for me with my singleton, was woken up with hard, steady contractions. i asked for them to break my waters, and ten hours later I was still able to laugh through those "toning contractions" at 6cm (unmedicated), so I went to sleep; the "real" thing woke me up. Maybe that'll give you some peace of mind - that they really will wake you up when you're body's finally ready!

I'm aiming for at least v-day, too, then I can deliver at my local hospital instead of big NICU city hospital...bedrest at least until then...

Yeah, I got woke up last night with them. They were really painful. They went on like that last night for about 2 hours but they were about 10-15 minutes apart, so not too close, then fizzled off again. lol, I feel like this might be a long 4-6 weeks if this keeps up!
