Do you say thank you to your waiter?
Does it bother you when people you're with do not?
Do you teach your kids to say thank you to your servers?

I think you can tell a lot by a person by how they treat "the help". Especially on a date, of course they are trying to woo you and be charming. It bothers me when people are rude or bossy, but not necessarily when they don't use the words please and thank you. Some people don't have nice manners, but they are still nice. I definitely appreciate it when people say please and thank you though.
My 2yo is nervous/shy with the waitstaff, I think they are too near to him. Plus, they are usually rushing off, and don't seem to ave the time to wait for him to say anything, so I haven't taught him to talk to them yet. He does thank nurses/doctors, cashiers, people who hold the door for us, etc. It was very cute to me, when after his stitches, while still crying, he thanked the doctor as she left.

I wouldn't really notice anyone I was with *not* using manners unless it was really egregious though.
ditto
And, yes, I teach my kids the same.

I am very big on pleases and thank yous, and so I utilize them regularly. I will ask for a manager if I get stellar service, just to let them know they have a good server. I worked in a restaurant, and it is tiring work and generally thankless, so those few polite, nice customers make your day.

I think its important to thank your server especially if they did a great job..I have had incidents where I don't think my table was priority and the issue was resolved with a chat with the boss but, I still thanked anyone else that used their ability to be polite. like the hostess/host and what not. My service and my satisfaction with it is usually taken care of in the tip...we are very good tippers if the service is up to par.

You sound like me.
Out of curiosity....(I have actually been wondering this for days, and this is a good time to bring it up)
If traffic is bad and someone lets you in...do you wave? ( I think I am the only person in Baton Rouge that does this....it kind of ticks me off that no one waves thanks to me

I wave : ) I came from the country where everyone knew everyone so it was just something we did. We also said hi to people we made eye contact with while walking down the street and *gasp* offered a smile! When I do that where I live now, people look at me like I just escaped from the looney bin!

ITA. Always thank the help and treat them with the same consideration you would hope to receive in that position.

I do.
We were out at a restaurant once and Addison asked the waitress for milk. I wouldn't let the waitress get it for her until she said please. I'm a mean momma.
I feel that we set examples to our children by the way we act. I always try to say please and thank you to whoever serves me. I know that I sometimes either forget or just don't do it but that is rare.

I teach Nadia the same. She orders her own meal when we're out. She says "I'll have X please" and then thank you when it's delivered. If she forgets, I remind her.
It does bother me when people are not polite to wait staff, or anyone, really.
I really thank everyone, all the time. If someone holds the door for me, or when I'm ordering coffee through drive thru. If someone wishes me a good day, I thank them. I thank my daughter for a job well done, or hugs and kisses, or I love yous.

Yes, I wave. I do it as a thanks and also to acknowledge that I see they are letting me in. It bothers me when others don't, but really, most people around here do wave. If I am walking and someone stops at a cross walk to let me cross, I wave and smile as well. Again, most people do this around here. But I've been told the people in my city are very polite (a new girl at work had just moved here and couldn't get over how nice and polite every single person was! lol)
