First ultrasound- twins.. or not? : Natural Childbirth

Ok after asking your opinion on the home birth of twins, we went in for an ultrasound today and indeed there are two blobs. One has a heartbeat, the other does not. My midwife said it is still early so the other one could possibly have a heartbeat later, or it could be one that didn't make it or I could have an extra large yolk sac. She did say that I have a LOT of amniotic fluid which could mean that there were indeed twins. So.. I have to wait it out. Which doesn't sound fun. Here's the picture if you want to check it out. The bottom one was the one without a heartbeat.

Laura, I will be praying it was just too early for baby bean #2s heartbeat!

I have yet to hear of one bad home birth experience of twins. I don't have any info, but I'm sure these great ladies can point you in the direction of some!

You wil be in my thoughts! How long does your midwife want to wait to check again?

I'm so sorry that you have to go through such a waiting period to figure out what is happening but my thoughts and prayers will be with you along the way. Take care of youself and your precious cargo and please keep us updated.

She didn't give me a specific date. When I go in next I'll be 12 weeks and I expect she'll try to hear 2 heartbeats at that point. Hopefully I'll know in a month! What is really strange is my due date is the day after my identical twin nephews' birthday! If baby #2 ends up pulling through, my mom will have two sets of identical twin grandkids.

I hope that if it is twins the second baby makes it and you get good news at your appt. I'll be thinking about you!
