I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes 2 weeks ago, and I've been trying so hard to figure out what my body is ok with me eating. For any of you who also have gestational diabetes, I thought that I would share a couple of things I've found.

Mixed nuts are low in carbs, high in fiber.

Weight Watchers food have low carbs and high fiber.

Merrita has a whole wheat bread called Smart Wheat. 2 slices of bread have 17 carbs and 5 fiber, the lowest I've found in bread so far.

Has anyone heard anything about Glucerna? A friend was telling me about it. I haven't tried it. I wasn't sure if it was good for gestational diabetes since gest. diabetes tends to be a little different than other types of diabetes.

Has anyone found anything else that might be really helpful?

I just got diagnosed with the gestational diabetes last week. Everything is still pretty new to me as well. I work for an elders program and order supplies. I know we order the Glucerna for diabetics but they're mainly elders and I think they use them as meal replacements, when they get to the stage where they just don't feel like eating anymore. Hope that helps a little

The thing that my diabetic nutritionist told me is that it is better to use your carb allowance on good wholesome food rather than processed things like Glucerna or other low carb processed food supplements.

One of my favorite gestational diabetes foods that was recommended to me is Greek yogurt. It is low in fat, reasonable in carbs, and high in protein. It is really satisfying when you want something a little sweet.

Another thing that I found out the hard way is that grapes may be a fruit, but they are super high in fructose and have a really drastic effect on my blood sugar. So be cautious with them.
