So I had the HSG procedure this morning! DH told me to give myself 1.5 to 2 hours to get there...and I'm really glad I gave myself 2.5 hours because it took me 2 hours of driving to get there. It was at an x-ray lab in a medical building.
I got to wear a paper gown (1st time, lol, all other gowns have been cloth) and lay on a very hard table. The first part was just like a pap - insert speculum, rinse cervix. Then he put a tube in my cervix - that felt quite pinchy. I did load up on cramp medication beforehand so I'm sure that helped. Even so, some parts were still painful - every time he put the fluid in (and he did that several times) and when I had to turn from my back to my sides with all those instruments inside. I felt like I was going to pass out during one of the turns. The pressure wasn't as bad as I had expected; nothing felt like it was going to burst. The x-ray machine was just like a canopy over me.
Then he took everything out and I had to lay there for a few minutes before sitting up, and then they asked me to sit in the waiting room for about 10 minutes before leaving. I felt quite weak and shaky for awhile afterward. The doctor said I would likely have cramps and bleeding for the rest of the day, but I'd be fine tomorrow.
He said they would forward the x-rays to my doctor. I wonder if he will have them yet for our appointment on Monday next week. If not, I'm sure he will contact me later if anything unusual shows up on the x-rays.
I'm really glad to get that over with!
