I am 10 weeks and 3 days along in my pregnancy. Well today while I was taking a shower, I wiped and on the towel was a small amount of brown blood. Wiped again and there it was again, also a small amount of mucus. When I wiped with a dry towel there was nothing but I went to th ER anyways. They tested my urine, blood samples, I got an ultrasound, and a pelvic exam. The Dr did see blood, it was really dark and I don't know the amount that was inside. My ultrasound was fine, baby was moving around and still alive. But the Dr told me he couldn't tell me what was wrong!! He said I have a 50/50 chance of keeping the baby or having a miscarriage. He didn't know why I was bleeding and he said I could be having a miscarriage now but he wouldn't know. I don't get it!! What was the blood sample or urine for?? Maybe I'm mistaken but I thought there was some kind of way that they can tell if you're having a miscarriage and check ur pregnancy hormone levels to see if everything was ok! But I haven't gushed blood or seen anything bright red. Just dark brown and very small amount that fades away. And no pain or cramping. I'm going to see my OB/GYN soon but I am just so scared. I know a miscarriage cannot be stopped but I just needed a little more clarification. I feel like I basically wasted my time going to ER and I'm gonna get a huge bill for nothing. I have family members who said I shouldn't worry, it happened to them before. It was just old blood that was finally coming out, but I just cant stop. Has anyone experienced this before and should I really be this worried??

brown blood is old blood like pp said. And yes, it does happen to many women (happened to me both pregnancies). Don't start worrying unless you have cramping or a lot of red blood. Honestly, the Dr you saw kind of sounds like he didn't really check you out very well. If you're not cramping, not heavily bleeding, and the baby checked out fine on the ultrasound, then no, you're not having a miscarriage. Why he told you 50/50 chance is beyond me. So try to relax (easier said than done I know) and see your OB soon so you can get better answers. Good luck hun
