IVF cancelled

Oh man.... How upsetting, yikes! I'm so sorry to hear that the cycle was cancelled. I suppose with all the different protocols, what works for one person may not work with another. Don't give up hope though, the doctor should be able to come up with something that will work, now that he knows how your body reacted (or didn't react) this time. But I know that all the waiting, and trying different things is tough!

I am so sorry to hear this hun. i can only imagine how devastated you must feel. I sorta had my last cycle canceled. because my lining didn't look right, my dr would only do a retrieval, and not a transfer. was supposed to transfer the month after, but since hubby lost his job in between the time we retrieved and was af was to start after, we are on an indefinite hold with eggs in the freezer.

as for protocols, I have had a couple. they all start with a minimum of 2 weeks on bcp to make sure that everything starts exactly when the dr wants it too, not when your body feels like getting around to it. it also helps to get rid of any potential cysts that might have been left over from the previous cycle. I have stimmed for IVF 4 times since Jan 2011. my first 3 cycles we used gonal f as the FSH med (with lupron to supress I think). with each of those, I started out with 11-15 eggs. my 4th cycle, I had a ton of medication donated to me, so we changed the protcol slightly to fit with that med, it was called bravelle. that cycle I produced 17 eggs, so definitely better.

hopefully your dr can give you some information on what he/she thinks happened and what they can do next time to make sure you respond better.

Thank you for your responses . It is such a tough thing to go through. I tried to be so positive which I think made my reaction to the cancellation worse.

I am glad they didn't just take my money and go through with a cycle that wasn't going to work. I really like my RE and am just hoping and praying they can come up with something that will work. I was on BCP almost 5 weeks this time (due to our schedule and traveling).... We go to a pretty large clinic that runs IVFs continuously so hopefully I can do a cycle either without them or for less than 2 weeks. We shall see.

At this point I'm over it, I just want monday to hurry up and get here so we can figure out our next plan of action and get it going! I'm feeling so impatient.

Although I haven't started an IVF cycle yet, the RE did give me a list of the meds that he plans for me to use:

Synarel for suppression
Bravelle and Menopur for stimulation

Interestingly, he said we aren't going to use BC pills at all. He said he didn't think they were necessary.

Melanie, I hope your meeting with the RE goes well.

My RE suggested two other protocols that may work better. Either a Lupron micro flare or a Leap protocol. She also said that even with low ovarian reserve my age is still on my side, so quality over quantity will be in our favor. Just waiting for AF next week or so, so we can get the next cycle rolling!!

And it's definately good that you have the opportunity to do this while you are still in your twenties. I hear so many stories of women who wish they hadn't left it so late (me included!) In my case, it took me a really long time to find DH (I was 34 when we got married), I didn't finish school until I was 36, and then it took some time to convince DH that we should have a child (he already has 3 daughters from his first marriage).
