I seem to remember reading somewhere that having a c-section will delay milk coming in. I know that my milk didn't come in with my DD until days 9 or 10, but that could have been because I wasn't able to nurse till then, only pump. Anyone know if this is true for a 'normal' c-section birth?

With My first DD My Milk took 7 days to come in. I had issues bleeding after her delivery and they came me a shot of something to make my uterus contract. I think this delayed my milk.

WIth DD's 2 and 3 I never had an issue.  Within 3 days or less milk was in and we were off and nursing.

All three were born Via c-section.

I think with Any delivery if a problem arises certain meds CAN delay milk production.

With my son I could not breast feed or pump until day 5.  My milk never did come in enough to feed him solely on breastmilk.

With this one I will have another c-section and because of the meds I will be on I will not be able to breastfeed again for several days.  I am hoping pumping will at least keep my milk somewhat in.

Good luck,

with my first my milk came in on day 3 and that was with pumping he would not latch . with baby 2 I think it was about day 2 that it came in I was bfing and pumping to get more milk cause he with in the special care unit he had jaundice really bad and needed to drink as much as he could to get it out of him . they only gave him formula once and they did not tell me so when I walked in and saw the bottle on his bed I got upset cause I figured out that was why he had a hard time latching at the feeding right before that . they were suppose to give it in a cup . so after that my milk was in and he did not need formula and they gave it in a cup from then on . GL I hope things go good for you and your little one . and your milk comes in fast

WIth DD I had a c/s and my milk came in on day 3. I think it's different for everyone and also depends on the circumstances at the hospital. My c/s was planned (b/c DD was breech), and I didn't have any complications. DD was in my room in 3 hours and she stayed with me from then on. Good luck, Christie

my milk never came in with ds after 3 weeks of pumping and trying to bf.  i had a long labor with c/section and a hard recovery.  after 3 weeks and pumping for about an hour just to get an ounce, i gave in.

I had en emergency c/s with my son at 31 weeks (due to pre-eclampsia) and they had me try and pump later that day...I got 6 ounces!  The nurses were amazed after they told me to only expect a few drops.  I never had a problem with milk.  I'm hoping the same thing happens with this baby...the c/s is scheduled at 38 weeks.
