Hi ladies! I was directed to this board by some ladies from the March DDC. I am due March 4th with my first child and I'm really hoping to have an unmedicated birth. I have been met with some resistance by some friends and family members who want to scare me with horror stories and don't understand why I would want to do this without drugs. I'm going into this experience open minded and my OB is aware of my feelings and is supportive. I am glad that I was directed to this board because I really needed to find a place where there are other women who are working towards the same goal.

I had my first unmedicated and planned it that way.  I watched a lamaze dvd and I think it helped a lot.   Honestly I didn't think labor was all that bad at all :)  I read a lot of natural birthing books. I think its important to remember that epidurals do not come risk free and sometimes do not even work.  I'd rather be prepared and ready for an unmedicated birth then waiting for the epidural and it not take. I can't imagine how out of control of my labor experience that would make me feel. Welcome to the board, its nice to have you here!

Congratulations on your pregnancy!  I had my unmedicated VBAC on Friday, March 13, 2009! :)  Go March babies!  I had a Bradley birth.  I strongly urge you to hire a doula and take a good childbirth class (and NOT the one offered by the hospital)  lol :)Welcome!  Oh, and just ignore the naysayers....let them fuel you to prove them all wrong.

Hello and welcome! You'll find lots of supportive and knowledgeable ladies here. I'm definitely not one of the knowledgeable ones, though! LOL. Like you, I'm working my way towards my first natural birth and I've found lots of great advice and support here. Have a read through the birth stories sticky on here. So many women have done this before us and I truly believe we can, too. I know it's hard, but try to ignore the negative comments.

Welcome and congratulations on your pregnancy!  This is a great board for information on non-medicated birthing and you will find many of the women here have chosen to go way out of the "main stream society" and believed in their bodies enough to birth outside of the hospitals.  Now, if we can just get the rest of society to realize they can do the same, we may just not get all of the negative stories from those that chose drug to birth their babies.

Unless you are lucky enough to come from a family of natural birthers, you will be listening to negative talk all the way up to delivery.  It's hard not to listen to them all but put the stories into perspective.  By chosing to educate yourself about birth and realizing that your body is designed to actually **birth** a baby, you have already shown the type of mother that you aspire to be.

Congratulations again and please feel free to ask us anything!

BTW...Way to go March babies!!!
