First, I will introduce myself, my name is Emily and I have three beautiful children and one Angel. My children are 9,7 and 4 1/2. My last one was my only c-section. I am currently 15 weeks 5 days pregnant. I  was completely fine in having another c-section until my appointment today. My doctor asked me what I planned on doing for birth control after the baby was born. I told him I was not sure and it was a religious issue for me. He informed me that a third c-section is very risky and that I could problems with the development of the placenta and it was a health risk for me. That got me thinking, you won't provide me with a VBAC but you are telling me that if I have a c-section this time I should not have any more babies. So now I am confused. Have any of you had  more than two c-section and did things turn out okay? I really do not want to change doctors I have been with them for 10 years but I feel like I am being pushed to get my tubes tied.

we want 5-6 children and baby one was a c-section. I am due April 22 and asked my doc about this because i am interested in a VBAC. After he discussed that I asked him about sections and if it would be possible to have that many if i end up with another section and he said he has done as many as 5 sections on one lady and i have heard of people having more. I would switch doctors or at least visit another doctor for another opinion and see what they say and if they agree or disagree with your doc.

Thank you both so much for your opinions, it really helps. I am not sure how many children we will end up with but I do not want the choice taken away from me.  I think I am going to get a second opinion. I have been researching all day, it is making my husband crazy.

I've had 3 c-sections and my doc said everything looked great to have another if I want.  She does recommend at least 18 months between sections and says that every woman is a case by case basis.  She has had patients who she recommends stopping after 2 and others who have had 6, its all about how the incision heals, scar tissue, etc.  Were there complication with your other section?  If not I don't see why your Doc would say this as I think it is relatively common for women to have 3 sections and even more.  I would definately get a 2nd opinion.

I will have my 4th c-section on Dec. 15th. The first three were un-eventful.

I have always been told to take it one at a time if they recomend no more then that's it.

If they refuse to even let you try VBAC I say look for a dr/hospital that will. at least then you are keeping your options open.

My other C-section was went great. I was up that night waking around. There office does not do VBACS. I do not even know if I would qualify because they have always taken me early the first two through inductions and the last through c-section. The 38th week my blood pressure sky rockets. I would just like to know if it would be an option for me and if not I could let it go. The idea of one more baby is on my mind, I do not know though and I do not want the option taken away.  Thanks for all of your responses.

Hi I am lurking but I wanted to say
I am having my 4th c-sec in Feb and have discussed with my Dr this before and she said she was comfortable doing 6 c-secs on me and then we would discuss more
My friend at church has had 7 and is not sure if there family is complete
I would talk to other OBs
One thing I know my dr said if I wanted to have alot I would have to make sure I keep myself in a healthy condition so she does not hav alot to cut thru ( she could have just said that so I wont let myself go lol)

Honestly? I would change doctors. Making a blanket statement that three C-sections is risky is just ridiculous. If it were specific to your case and there were reasons, that would be one thing, but otherwise it just seems faaaaaar too cautious.

I had once heard the whole "3 C-sections max" thing, so I asked my OB. We want four kids, and I have already had two C-sections. (My third will be on March 26.) He said, "I will do as many as eight C-sections on the same woman." I chuckled b/c he is usually a joker. And though he was laughing, he said he was absolutely serious.

I love my OB. :)
