I know I'm such a cliche. Newly pregnant and already stressing over everything.  One of my main concerns with this delivery since I delivered my son premmaturely is the first time I had no clue I was in labor. Maybe if I did, I could have went to the hospital and had it stopped and continued on to have a home birth. We'll never know.  I always heard labor was like your period, you felt it in your stomach. My first labor was a complete hips and leg labor.  I had no stomach issues at all.  My midwife said it was the baby falling into place and my hips widening. My SIL said she had the same pain when her's fell into position and even when she came over later, thought it was braxton hicks. My mother that was there said it was braxton hicks. I just believed everybody.  Now that I'm facing labor #2 I'm wondering if it will be the same as #1 or if I'll be caught off guard this time. I'm really wanting to NOT have another premmature labor.  If this one is premmature I am giving up my home birth dream which is going to be really hard for me. Were your labor pains similiar each time?  Do you think I'll recognize labor as labor this time?

Both of my labors were totally different.  With DD I had contractions all day long before labor really kicked in that night and my contractions were all in my stomach, like you said.  The second time around with DS I had hard contractions from the start and they were all way down in my pelvis, very different, but very painful so I knew it was labor.  I think this time you'll find that you'll know you're in labor even if it's not just the same because you'll be more aware of what labor can be.

I had a very similar labor experience with my 1st it all hips and pain but I knew I was in labor because the pain was more intense and wouldnt go away even though I didnt feel the abdomen contraction pain.

I havent had baby #2 yet (I'm overdue right now) but so far this time I've been having a lot of BHs that seem to know what they are doing more then with my last.  Plus also with this pregnancy I felt my bones moving around at around 6-8 months which I didnt feel at all with my 1st.  I think after your 1st your body knows more of what to do and your bones have already moved once so they will have an easier time the 2nd time around.

Its hard to know why premature labor happens - there are so many possible and unknown reasons.  I think the best thing you can do is eat healthy and stay relatively active (not to exertion just dont sit on your butt all day everyday).

At least this time you are more aware of your body and what might happen so just that alone could help this baby stay in longer.

I had two very differnt labors with my boys. The first time I did not believe I was in labor until I was 5cm and being told so at the hospital. Second time I tought I was in full blown labor at home, I waited a while then went to the center to find I was only 3cm. Every woman is different but I was definitely more sensitive the second time around.
