Hi there! I'm new to this board, but not new to BZ. I had a c-section (for my first child) last August after a 26 hour labor and 2 hours of pushing. The baby was just too big and was stuck. I am thinking about future children, and I have 2 questions. I'm hoping someone will have some good insight:

1. How long should I wait until I get pregnant again? I would like my kids to be somewhat close in age, but I had a very difficult recovery from my c-section. The incision hurt very badly for months - to this day, it is still tender. I am worried about getting pregnant before I am completely healed, I've read bad stories about uterine rupture, etc. But if I had my choice I would really like to get pregnant shortly after my daughter turns 1. Is that too soon??

2. If I know that it's highly likely that I will have a very big baby again (everyone in my family has big babies and many women in my family have had to have c-sections) should I go ahead and just plan on another c-section, or should I still try to have a VBAC? My fear is going through the horrible labor I went through last time, just to end up with a c-section anyway.

Any advice or stories of your experiences would be appreciated!

Hi there... I too recently had a c-section due to my little one being a combined breech.
When i asked my midwife about when its considered "safe" to become pregnant again she said a year to 14 months after.
to answer your other question.... I think it might be easier to book a c-section with your next, so you have peace of mind.. but you can also wait and see what the baby is measuring at by ultrasound, that way you have an idea of what your baby is weighing in at!

Go with your gut feeling and Im sure everything will be fine :)

I had 2 c sections 17 month apart with no problems...I am scheduled for the 3rd C section first week of November... It all depends on your scaring. Talk to your doctor...Every women is different and every C section might heal different too... Talk to your doctor to be safe.

I had my first c-section in May 2006 after a very long labor and pushing for over 2 hours and eventually just falling asleep.=) My son was over 9 lbs. I opted for a repeat c-section because I do have big babies and the OB said they just get bigger the more you have. I had a natural birth with my DD in 2004 and I didn't want to go through that pain again ever. So I had a repeat c-section in July 2007, only 14 months from my first one. I had another c-section in Jan 2010 and I'll be having my 4th c-section in November this year. The OB usually likes to see 2 years in between surgeries to give your body time to heal. I am a little nervous this time around because it will be my 4th c-section and there are a lot of risks with my uterus rupturing or losing a lot of blood , but I'm just praying for a smooth delivery.

Sending positive thoughts your way. I hope you will have a smooth, problem free delivery. :)
