Name/Screenname: Brooke

Name and Age of nursling(s): Colton 16 months

Other children: one in the oven

Where are you from and how old are you? west coast /26

How many years (cumulative) experience BF: I think my ticker says 16 months and 13 some odd days :)

When did you know you would nurse past one year? from the start. I knew I wanted to nurse until 2 at the very least.

Is you partner supportive? very

What is one thing you enjoy most about extended nursing and/or Tandem nursing? What is one thing you enjoy least? Nursing in general is just simple. Never had to think about when or how he would eat when he was little and now I love that if he needs comfort from a big bonk or something I have the best comfort there is. The least favorite thing is dealing with other people insecurities about me nursing my toddler.

What type of weaning method will you do (child led, don't ask/don't refuse, etc)? I am slowly cutting back on feedings. And I mean very slowly. I hope to have him weaned by august so I can have a little break before our new arrival gets here in december. Although that is still up in the air. I often think I could tandem nurse. I go back and forth.

Do you know any other Moms who extended bf besides online? yes!

Anything else you would like to share? Feel free to post pics too!

Name/Screenname: Aubree/AubsPDX

Name and Age of nursling(s): Nolan, 12 months

Other children: B, 3.5 years

Where are you from and how old are you? I'm from the Portland, OR area and I'm 36

How many years (cumulative) experience BF: 2 years (if you include my first BF experience)

When did you know you would nurse past one year? When I kept going further and further, I realized I could do it. This time, I hope to make it to 18 months.

Is you partner supportive? Yes, to an extent. He doesn't see a need past 1 year, but he knows how much it means to me and DS, so he will support me.

What is one thing you enjoy most about extended nursing and/or Tandem nursing? What is one thing you enjoy least? I enjoy the quiet/downtime that DS and I have at night. I love how he signs for milk when he wants it. I enjoy pumping the least, but thankfully I'm done pumping during the day and only need to when I'm away from DS at night or the morning.

What type of weaning method will you do (child led, don't ask/don't refuse, etc)? don't ask/don't refuse for daytime, which isn't a big deal. DS is incredibly distracted during the day that it's a struggle. He still gets bm in a sippy or bottle twice a day. As for morning and night, child led weaning at this point. He sure does love his night time nursing sessions.

Do you know any other Moms who extended bf besides online? Not many IRL, to be honest. Most moms stop after 6 months or a year.

Anything else you would like to share? Feel free to post pics too!

Name/Screenname: Jodi

Name and Age of nursling(s): Landon 15 months

Other children: 13 weeks (tomorrow!) pregnant with #2

Where are you from and how old are you? I'm from British Columbia, Canada and I'm 26

How many years (cumulative) experience BF: 15 months and one day

When did you know you would nurse past one year? I didn't really. Landon just really likes to nurse and I hated the thought of having to wean him.

Is you partner supportive? Yes. He's much better now than he was a few months ago though.

What is one thing you enjoy most about extended nursing and/or Tandem nursing? What is one thing you enjoy least? I enjoy the quiet time we get together each night before bed. I hate the way other people react when they hear he's still nursing and I'm pregnant. :(

What type of weaning method will you do (child led, don't ask/don't refuse, etc)? I'm (sorta) planning on letting DS go until August or September and then I'll look at weaning. He doesn't nurse during the day unless he's sick but the kid REALLY loves to nurse at night. I'm just not sure I will be up to nursing two especially since DS doesn't STTN yet.

Do you know any other Moms who extended bf besides online? No, most I know stopped well before 1 year.

Anything else you would like to share? Feel free to post pics too!

Name/Screenname: Sarah/Kitsune533

Name and Age of nursling(s): Hannah, 14 Months

Other children: None

Where are you from and how old are you? Reno, NV, 23 Years Old

How many years (cumulative) experience BF: 1

When did you know you would nurse past one year? As soon as I made it to the 6 month mark

Is you partner supportive? Yes, very, he wants me to go with it as long as I can

What is one thing you enjoy most about extended nursing and/or Tandem nursing? What is one thing you enjoy least? The closeness that we share and how relaxing it is to just take a break and enjoy being with my baby. Some times I really want to go to bed and wish that Hannah would finish so I could put her to bed and go to bed myself lol! But other than that I love it.

What type of weaning method will you do (child led, don't ask/don't refuse, etc)? Child Led

Do you know any other Moms who extended bf besides online? Only 1, and I think that she's stopped now, her daughter is 20 months

Name and Age of nursling(s): Gideon-2yrs 3 months, Caedmon-3 months.

Other children: Two cats, two dogs

Where are you from and how old are you? Originally Ridgway, Pa, but now live in Jamestown, NY. Turned 31 last month.

How many years (cumulative) experience BF: 2

When did you know you would nurse past one year? When I started ttc when Gideon was 6 months old and fell in love with the idea of tandem nursing.

Is you partner supportive? Yes, but he's starting to put the idea in Gideon's head that he is getting too big.

What is one thing you enjoy most about extended nursing and/or Tandem nursing? What is one thing you enjoy least? I love that Gideon doesn't have to feel left out when Caedy is nursing. I hate trying to lay flat with a newborn so my toddler can fall asleep--and they seem to have a sixth sense of when the other is nursing and will start whining/crying if I nurse them separately.

What type of weaning method will you do (child led, don't ask/don't refuse, etc)? I like don't ask, don't refuse, but if he keeps going I'll probably attempt weaning at three.

Do you know any other Moms who extended bf besides online? Yes, but only one who is doing it currently.

Name and Age of nursling(s): Jonah, 2 on May 22

Other children: Two girls, ages 9 and 6

Where are you from and how old are you? Rural Missouri, 32

How many years (cumulative) experience BF: Five

When did you know you would nurse past one year? When I was still nursing dd#2. After that I knew I'd still be nursing (it's my weight loss secret, can't give it up LOL)

Is you partner supportive? yes

What is one thing you enjoy most about extended nursing and/or Tandem nursing? What is one thing you enjoy least? I love the health benefits and the ease of nursing, especially if Jr misses lunch or something because his naptime is near lunch time. Nursing is what kept him hydrated during one bout of stomach sickness this year, it was the only thing he kept down. I hate the fact that he can ask for it, wriggle into position, and try to get into my shirt. Very embarrassing in public!

What type of weaning method will you do (child led, don't ask/don't refuse, etc)? With my dd2, it was child led. I don't know about Jr. We might have to make him quit.

Do you know any other Moms who extended bf besides online? No.

Anything else you would like to share? Feel free to post pics too! I'm a lurker. I never have much to say, but enjoy other peoples posts.

Name and Age of nursling(s): Silas almost 14 months :)

Other children: Kaylynn almost 11, Alec 9, Gideon almost 4!

Where are you from and how old are you? I live in NW Oregon and am 33 years old.

How many years (cumulative) experience BF: 5ish

When did you know you would nurse past one year? When Gideon was a few months old I read the benefits of nursing past one year and knew that is what we would do :) I knew I would do the same with Silas from the time I was pregnant with him.

Is you partner supportive? Yes, although he had a few moments here in the last couple of months where he thought I should nudge Gideon to wean. He felt weird about him nursing past four.

What is one thing you enjoy most about extended nursing and/or Tandem nursing? What is one thing you enjoy least? I enjoy the quiet time and cuddles. Right now night nursing! I'm ready to get a full nights sleep. Also after almost four years of nursing I sometimes feel ready to have my body to myself.

What type of weaning method will you do (child led, don't ask/don't refuse, etc)? Child led.

Do you know any other Moms who extended bf besides online? Not currently but two of my close friends nursed a few months past one.

Anything else you would like to share? Feel free to post pics too!

Other children: Isabel 4 years

Where are you from and how old are you? I am from Massachusetts, 30 yo

How many years (cumulative) experience BF: 14 months

When did you know you would nurse past one year? I think I posted here when I decided it, when he was about 9 months old I just knew we weren't going to stop anytime soon

Is you partner supportive? Yes, he knows it is the best thing for him and loves how ds never gets sick because of bf

What is one thing you enjoy most about extended nursing and/or Tandem nursing? What is one thing you enjoy least? I enjoy our cuddle time and how adorable he looks nursing. I don't enjoy how his teeth hurt when he bf even if I adjust his latch and I am not liking the looks and comments I am getting from people now that he is 1 and we are still nursing.

What type of weaning method will you do (child led, don't ask/don't refuse, etc)? Not sure, we are just going to do it until either one of us wants to stop, so not yet.

Do you know any other Moms who extended bf besides online? My SIL but she lives far away and we are not very close I just know she did it with her dd because dh accidentally caught her dd bf when she was around 2, I guess she was a closet extended breastfeeder.

When did you know you would nurse past one year? I've wanted to since I was pregnant, I knew I would when I was successful at it and we didnt have any problems getting started.
Is you partner supportive? Yes
What is one thing you enjoy most about extended nursing and/or Tandem nursing? What is one thing you enjoy least? I love how I can calm her down whenever she's upset, or tired and the bond that we have because of it. I love the least, the judging from others, and her sticking her hand down my shirt to get a handful in front of those people, lol.
What type of weaning method will you do (child led, don't ask/don't refuse, etc)? Not really  sure the difference in child led and dont ask/dont refuse, but I would think dont ask/dont refuse. I'm not really sure yet.
Do you know any other Moms who extended bf besides online? Yes! I attend local LLL meetings, so most of my LLL friends nurse past 1 year. One pretty close friend is still nursing her 16 month old.

I can't believe I haven't filled this out yet!

Name/Screenname: Laurie/Diener

Name and Age of nursling(s): Liam (currently 16 mo)

Other children: Arthur (19 years in August)

Where are you from and how old are you? From Washington State and I am 41!

How many years (cumulative) experience BF: About a year and 18 months.

When did you know you would nurse past one year? When we got past 9 months.

Is you partner supportive? Yes!

What is one thing you enjoy most about extended nursing and/or Tandem nursing? It is cool that Liam is able to communicate with me about what he likes about or wants from nursing. I was so little when I was weaned that I have no recollection at all about it, and though I know that Liam probably won't remember, either, I will remember what he tells me.

What is one thing you enjoy least? That my DH can't pinch my nipples anymore during sex without getting milk sprayed at him... (tmi?)

What type of weaning method will you do (child led, don't ask/don't refuse, etc)? Planning on child led right now.

Do you know any other Moms who extended bf besides online? Yes! There is one lady that is near my age at church that is still BFing her 17 month old! There might be more, but I don't see the younger moms very much.

Anything else you would like to share? I don't know about anyone else, but I have noticed that my milk doesn't dry up easily. Since I have made it past one year with BFing, I started working out hardcore and reducing my calories gradually in order to loose weight and my milk is unaffected. Even back when my oldest was born I still had colostrum for about 10 years after he was born. The doc said that was nuts, but there it is. Since all of us have made it so very far, has anyone else noticed that their milk production is tenacious?

I don't have any pics of Liam nursing. I suppose I could always take one and post it on the regular forums!

How funny about the milk spraying your DH :) I had a friend that could still squirt out milk 18 years after she had last nursed! I'm guessing it's in the range of normal :) I'm at the other end of the spectrum. I hardly make any milk and it never comes out unless Silas is nursing and takes a few mins to let down at this point.

Wow! 18 years! Well that is a new record! I am thinking menopause will keep me from reaching that. ;-)
