I had my second ultrasound at 12 weeks and 5 days, I was hoping to see the gender because a friend of mine did at 12 weeks. Its driving crazy to wait until 20 weeks to find out. I found a private place that performs gender ultrasounds at 14 weeks.
Now I am reading too many ultrasounds are bad for the baby....any thoughts?

My best friend is an ultrasound tech and just told me that she has never heard of that. She said that a lot of women carrying twins sometimes go for an ultrasound every 2 weeks for some durations o their pregnancy. I personally wouldn't worry at all. I have been for 2 already and go again in 10 days for the NT scan. I'm not concerned in the least. But that's just me.

First Congratulations on the healthy bean!
I know what you mean about cannot wait for the gender. I have my nt scan monday and i so hope we can take a guess then.
As for u/s being bad for baby i have never heard of it, and seeing how they did one each week for me at the very beginning i am sure Docs would have mentioned it. I think when they say too much, they really mean too much, aka, almost everyday and i wouldn't worry about just one more u/s.

I would love to find out the sex of the baby at 12 weeks but I worry that it would change. Like got my hopes up for a little girl, then the boys junk decides to drop. My husband has four boys so the chance of a girl is slim, so as much as I want to know early on I want to wait so it is more pronounced what the sex is.

You should so go do the one at 14 weeks, that would be really neat to know that early what the sex is.

Lurker here. You can try but I would not go out and buy all pink/blue. Til 15-16wks a male and female bits can look the same. I have a friend who got one done at 14wks and it said girl. It did at 16ws also. She ended up with a boy.lol.

I don't know that I would pay the money, since you cannot reliably tell at that stage in pregnancy. The anomaly/gender scan will be here before you know it.

As for too many u/s I will be having twins, and have already had 4 u/s starting at 20 weeks. I will be having a scan monthly. No one has expressed concern that I am going to be doing harm to me or the babies.

Glad to hear your appt went well and your LO is growing well and healthy.

I wouldn't worry too much about ultrasounds. Here in SA we have one every 4 weeks till about 8months then ever two weeks and then one every week til birth. My gynae on the other hand doesn't like to do doppler too much. He doesn't even do it at 6weeks of pregnancy. When he does it at 8weeks its literally for 5 heartbeat counts so he can estimate the beats/minute.
