Hi everyone, hope you don't mind me joining your group, i am looking for some help, i have been ttc for almost a year and finally went to a new dr who agreed with me that my cycles are wacky(getting longer) and that i may not be ovulation regularly(no good shifts in bbt), he put me on letrozole and said i could try it for 6 months, i am now on month 2, after 3 months he told me to get blood work done and have my husband do a seman analysis, after 6 months he wants to do the new xray/ultrasound(?) procedure to see if my tubes are blocked, and then after that i will be referred to a specialist in a bigger town (i live in a fairly small town in the midwest) my question is, has anyone had this procedure to see if your tubes are blocked and how expensive is it? also what options can i expect after letrozole? i know my options depend on my test results, etc, just wondering what all the options are out there and what steps are between a and z if you know what i mean, i feel like letrozole is a first step and ivf would be an end step because its so expensive, just wondering what my options are between those two treatments, any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks!!!!

Welcome!! :)

You may want to ask the ladies on our TTC in General board also. There is a little more traffic over there. ;)

I have had the procedure done - a hysterosalpingogram (HSG). They inserted dye into the uterus and fallopian tubes and took x-rays. I'm not sure what the cost is - I live in Canada where diagnostic procedures are covered by our medical plan.

And I'm sorry I can't help with 'in between steps'. In our case it is a male infertility factor so our only option is IVF. Good luck - I hope you find the solution that works soon.

i have been ttc for almost 3 1/2 yrs. after 9 mos on my own, my dr put me on clomid for 4 mos, which is similar to letrazole. after that I was sent to an RE to discuss options. he ran another blood panel on me to re-confirm my pcos and to make sure nothing else was an underlying cause for not getting pregnant. we also went ahead and did the HSG. it hurt for a couple of seconds, but I was easily able to breathe through it. DH had pretty good insurance coverage at the time, so I only had to pay about $60 for it I think. depnding on your insurance and how the dr bills your testing, your insurance may pay a good portion of things. your dr (whether in your town, or the one in the bigger town), can always submit info to your insurance company to see what your out of pocket expense will be.

after doing the HSG my RE recommended that we do a couple of mini-stim cycles. basically, I took meds that were more aggressive than the clomid, but not near as aggressive for an IVF cycle. I went in regularly to monitor my follicles before triggering the release and then hubby and I DTD at home for a few days. since I was the issue and not my husband, I decided to skip IUI and go straight to IVF. with the insurance we had, I was able to go through multiple cycles at a minimal cost.

I think at this point I have been through just about everything. so if you have any more questions, please feel free to post here or send me a personal message. good luck, hopefully all with work out for you with minimal intervention. :)
