THIS IS A DEBATE BOARD
As the hosts of this board we would like to welcome everyone to Hot Topics. This is a specialised board with some specific rules of ettiquette that we would like to address. Hopefully this will make for a smooth transition for anyone who joins us.
- Please limit new topics to debatable material. Even personal posts can be made debate worthy!
We have a fluff section that we encourage people to use for topics that aren't really "hot". However, announcements such as births, deaths, marriages, etc are certainly worthy of their own topic. So I guess just think about it and decide whether it will be hot enough to warrant pushing other topics off of the main page. If we think something belongs in fluff we will move it to the fluff thread.
- Dragging: this is against the TOU. It is not just against the rules to drag from one board to another but also against the rules to drag from one topic to another within the same board.
- Personal attacks and name calling will be edited.
- For now we will be editing titles that have adult content until the issues with the Most Active Topic section are resolved.
- If you have a question about what the hosts of this board are doing, I.E. if we hide your thread, or someone elses, please email us instead of posting a topic about it. Many times we will hide a thread while we discuss it if it is questionable. Just because you cant see it doesnt mean it has been deleted and often times we unhide it as soon as possible after making sure that it isnt against the CUP. The very nature of this board is different than the rest of the BabyZone community, therefor the hosts have to try to interpret posts and make a decision as to whether or not it is against the TOU even when there isnt a specific rule for each situation. So if we are working on something and a thread is posted asking questions about what is going on we will hide it. Please email us and we will be happy to discuss the situation with you.
- As the hosts of this board we are only human. We will make mistakes. If you disagree with the way something is being handled we encourage you to please email us about it. Sometimes we misinterpret posts or tone. If you feel that there is a post we need to look at please hit the report button to bring it to our attention. We try to stay on top of things but we all have families and lives and sometimes we miss things. If you have a problem with something a host says within a debate topic then again we encourage you to hit the report button. We know it might seem awkward, but when we are debating we try to remove our host hats. We try not to edit within posts we are personally active in. For example if Tracey gets into a back and forth with someone then it is preferable for one of the other hosts to keep an eye on that thread and make editing decisions.
We want every member of BabyZone to feel welcome here. We realise that there is definitely a learning curve. Every member of this board has experienced it. It can sometimes be a rocky beginning while you learn the dynamic. If you have any problems or questions please email any of us.
thank you and welcome!

You can take it with a grain of salt if you'd like
If you post a reply to a 3 paragraph OP, and your reply is 15 paragraphs long, it won't get read. I skip right over it, and I am sure I am not the only one. Now, If you usually keep it short, and occasionally post a long reply--not a big deal, but if everything with your siggie on it is rediculously long, i won't bother reading anything you type.
I tend to be long-winded, but I have gotten alot better since coming to HT. Others should learn to edit it down to "necessary info" also...

I agree; not that it begins too boring, but that there should be that hook right up front.
THIS IS A DEBATE BOARD.
So that even if people just glance at it quickly - it's obvious that it's different from the other boards.

It's now blatantly obvious that this is a debate board first and foremost!

Second question: Do I need to do anything else to join this board? Introduction, etc? Thanks so much!

Dragging could be if you saw a post of one of the sub boards (like a due date club board here on BZ... DDC)... and posted about that here on HT. It's dragging info from one board to another.
Another form of dragging is to take info a person gave in one thread here on HT and sort of hit them with it in another thread on HT. The within board dragging can get a bit murky IMO.
As for an introduction, it's not completely neccessary but is appreciated by some. You can do an intro post in the fluff thread that is usually 1st or 2nd on this board. It's especially a good idea to do that post if you are going to jump into posting with both feet and be really contraversial.
