Hi Ladies!

So when I first found out I was pregnant I was informed I have Rh Negative O blood. And they explained to me about it seeing that if my baby is positive my blood can harm my baby at birth. I have an appt coming up which I will be in my 27th week and its around the time of me needing that certain shot of protection for when my baby is born.

Was just wondering if any of you ladies have gone through this, or is going through this, or know anyone, just want to hear how it affected you or another. This is my first child, everything is moving along fine, shes kicking like a little ninja inside me hahaha but yea, any input on Rh Negative???

Thanks!!!

I've had to get this shot after both of my m/c's. It's really not bad, the actual shot is kind of painful, but there are no real side effects. The shot just makes sure you don't develop any antibodies to the rh positive blood. I know they usually give the shot around 28 weeks, and then if the baby has rh positive blood, they give you another after the birth. My understanding is that there is no harm to your first baby, but if you didn't get the shot, subsequent pregnancies could have issues since your body would have antibodies to the rh positive blood.

Good luck!

I have not since my husband and I are both positive, but my Mom was negative and had to have one when she was pregnant with me. I also have a friend who had to have one recently. I didn't ask a lot of questions, but I think after getting poked and prodded so much when you're pregnant one more shot doesn't seem like such a big deal. :P

I am RH negative and this is my first pregnancy. I was all set up to have the rhogam, but my partner was typed and he is also negative. My doctor advised to bring in the proof of his type and will likely not administer the rhogam as it would be a fluke genetic mutation that we would have a positive baby.
Either way, I was fine with getting it after doing some research. I think they automatically prescribe it for al negative women without requesting the partners type, so it may be something you want to check if you are apprehensive. He just donated blood and got his donor card with his type on it and did a good deed in the process!

I'm negative, so I am getting the shot July 25. When are you getting yours? If I get mine first, I'll let you know how it goes! :)

Hi Kelsey,

I'm negative too, and am cooking up my second baby. I had the Rhogam the first time with no issues, and have had it for my second.
If you're ok with needles, it'll be juust fine! :)

Hi. I just took my shot on Monday. They drew some blood first and then gave me my shot in my hip. It wasn't bad at all. My husband was with me and he said the needle was quite long but I didn't see it and I believe it helped me since I am usually a little scared when it comes to shots. But I have had no soreness or anything. It gives me peace of mind for future pregnancies. Both my parents are O+ so my O- was unexpected. I figure there is a greater possibility so it gave me peace of mind. Good luck! :)
