What type of pacifier is best for a breastfed baby? I used Nuk with DS and DD, but not sure which is best for breastfed babies? I bought the gumdrop ones thinking those would be better this time around for a breastfed baby, but I am not sure. I don't think the Nuk ever made a difference to DD with breastfeeding, but who knows. I found Nuk ones that are now all one piece like the gumdrop so I might try those (since I feel like the other Nuk type, the nipple could fall off). Anyway, I also noticed gumdrop ones are made in China, which I am not happy about and the Nuk are made in the USA.

I don't think the type really matters. I think the main thing is not to introduce it too early if you can. But, many bf babies don't take a paci. With my ds, I tried AVENT, since that's the type of bottle nipple we used, but he wouldn't take it. He did occasionally take a NUK one.

I'll have to look for the Nuk that are all one piece. Occasionally DD will take a Nuk but we are fully stocked on the Gumdrop and Soothies because she used to take one right after she was born. But I can't get her to use one for anything now. She's 13 months and I wish she would take one because she won't go to sleep without nursing. I would like to wean her soon but she won't take whole milk from a sippy or a bottle and has to suck to go to sleep. :(

I use the Gumdrop brand. She has no issues with distinguishing between the two.

With my youngest I tried all sorts of kinds and finally she settled on the nuk. With my first it was whichever one I tried first she used, for some reason I am drawing a blank on what kind. Didnt mess up nursing for us. I did wait a week or so before giving a pacy to my youngest, but my first I gave it to her in the hospital.

My ds wouldn't take the pacy until around 6 months.. He started trying to suck his thumb so we tried the pacy again and he loved it all of a sudden. He took the avent one and is very attached to it now at 15 months.. a whole other topic! I don't mind now but I have a feeling it's going to be heck to wean off of.

When my daughter was a newborn, she used the gumdrop, because that's what they had for her in the hospital the day she was born. Once she used that one, she didn't want any others that I tried to give her. My advice is to give your baby what he likes the best. By the way, I just weaned my daughter from nursing, and she's 24 months old now. :)

I used the soothie one my son got in the hospital. He loved to suck and my nipples and I were so sore t first. He gave them up on his own around 5 months. Still nursing at 15 months.

With my daughter people bought her all different kinds so we tried all of them...nuk, soothie, gumdrop,And Avent she wouldn't take any of them. So I looked up online which is similar to mothers breast and platex " binky" popped up so we tried it... And she will only take those.

Visiting! But with DD, she only took the original Avent one, kind of a flat nipple and flat shield if that makes sense ( she will be 10 in Feb.) I started with that style with DS and he refused it at 2 months, On the way home from a trip from MA no less and the only thing he would take at that point was something shaped the same as my pinky finger, which ended up being the soothie original, which is now the Avent soothie. I am going to start this little one out on either gumdrops or soothies, but am prepared to have to change at a moment's notice! I would just go grab a few different brands and see what little one takes, probably just one or two at a time, but since she is older, she may just be done with the paci!! Best of luck! Shannon
