Hi everyone, i need some advice. My baby girl is due in 2 weeks, and i plan to breastfeed her as long as possible. I am going back to school in jan, so i will be pumping so her father can feed her if i have to be gone when its time to feed. however i want to exclusivly breastfeed until then. my grandfather found out yesterday that he has cancer that cant be cured, just treated to keep him comfortable and what not and i'm worried about what to do for her feedings if he is to pass away before xmas and i have to leave her to go to the funeral. i didnt want to introduce bottles until after we are feeding really well because i dont want her to get confused, but if something doees happen i'm going to be forced to leave her with my sister-in-law and i guess im just worried that once she takes a bottle she wont want to nurse anymore.

any advice would be really helpful.

Is there a reason she can't go with you? That would be best of course. If not, I would try to limit your time away as much as possible. Once you get back, you may have to work at it to get baby back to breast. Here's an article on tips for using the bottle.

Hope everything goes well.

I am sorry to hear about your grandfather. I agree with Karen, can you take her with you? When they are newborns they mainly sleep or eat so she wouldnt be distracting. You could take a nursing cover and nurse there. They do say to wait till about 4 weeks to introduce a bottle but you can try before that. If you have to I would try a bottle a day before the funeral to make sure she will take it. Make sure it is the slowest nipple you can find. Also, if that doesnt work your SIL can feed her through a straw. I hope you dont have to worry about that though.
