Time for a new poll! In our last poll you were asked to choose between using a name you loved that the rest of your family hated and using a name you hated that the rest of your family loved. Here's the results:

Name you love, but family hates...100%
Name you hate, but family loves...0%

What a landslide! :P Here's the new question (submitted by Geri):

If you were honouring someone whose name was spelled "kre8tively" would you use the original/"kre8tive" spelling or would you opt for a more common/traditional spelling?

I chose traditional spelling, but it highly depends on what the kreatif spelling was.

For instance, Leigha (Leah) or Ashleigh (Ashley) still look nice to me and I would use them over the traditional spelling to honour. But if it was too over the top of difficult, I would just change the spelling to the norm - i.e. I would choose Sierra over Ceeairah.

Hmm, that one's a little tougher but I so dislike kre8uv spellings that I voted for traditional. But, as the PP said, it would really depend on the name. There are two exceptions I can think of:

If it's a perfectly legit but less common spelling of a traditional name (e.g. Elisabeth instead of Elizabeth, or Lukas instead of Lucas), I'd probably keep the spelling.

This is one of my weird naming quirks... but if it was a dramatically different spelling that really changed the feel/texture/vibe that I get from the name (like Jorja rather than Georgia - totally different names to me), I'd find a way to honor the altered name that felt true to that name. In the case of honoring a Jorja, I wouldn't want to use that name because I don't like the spelling, but I'd probably go with another "Jo-" name over using Georgia.

I picked original/creative spelling, though it really depends on the name and person I'm honoring and the reason for the creative spelling or common one.

I think it really depends on the name and the person and the spelling, but I picked the "original" spelling. I'm picking this mostly with my grandmother in mind. Her name is Ericka, and when I think about honouring her with a name, it's always the "erick" part that is important. I don't think I'd use Ericka flat-out, but I've thought about Frederick for her.
Then again, if her name were Airyqua, then there's no chance I'd ever use that spelling lol.

I guess in general terms, I'd use the original spelling, but I'm definitely not opposed to variants (spelling or otherwise).

I'm about the same way when it comes to this. Ericka isn't too "off" for me so I could use it, but if the name was Airyqua (ew :P) I'd probably use a different creative spelling that wasn't so out there. I wouldn't use Erica/Ericka/Erika, but maybe I'd use something like Aricka (which would be a bonus in that it honoured me as well. My "boy" nn when I was younger was Arick. :P).

I voted for traditional / original spelling because I really cringe at some creative spelling but it all depends though. There are spelling that I prefer than over others eg. Grayson vs. Greyson, while the spelling with the 'e' is legit, I prefer the spelling with the 'a'. While Danielle vs. Danyel, if would never consider using Danyel because it is too creative and the spelling makes me cringe so I would use Danielle.
