I'm not crazy about Jase, but that's just my thing, you obviously love it and it's after your husband (I'd prefer Jason). I do like River a lot, though.
I think it's fine to go for River Jase regardless of family reactions. I do think you should listen to what others have to say just because it's good to consider a name from every angle. Yes, people may 'always' think you did something crazy naming your child River ('what do you expect, they named their kid River' kind of thing). But, unless it was truly a bad name choice all around, people adapt to unheard of names. My brother named his son a pretty unheard of name. They told their name choice while they were pregnant and got all those blank stares and, 'so now, why are you choosing that' sort of thing. I love all kinds of names and even I thought it was pretty crazy and couldn't understand it (I'm sure I posted about it here and pretty much no one liked it, thought it was strange, etc). His family is very happy with his name, though, and everyone else has adapted. Yes I still think it's strange, doesn't fit in the set, etc. But it does fit him and I really can't see him as anything else. As for me, I'd have to endure plenty of uncontrolled laughter on their part to use just about any name on my lists - we do not see names the same.
Jackson Cole G (3syllable ln) - nice, why not River for the mn? Jackson River is very handsome I think.
River (I like this for a boy or a girl)
Ianthe (ha, there's a name to drop your family's jaws! I think it's one of the most beautiful names though)
