Hey ladies. Just wondering if there is anyone out there like me who has MTHFR. I didn't find out until I lost my first baby at 19 weeks. Then my aunt told me she had it, she miscarried 6 times before she found out about it. It turns out I got it from both sides of my family.
Some doctors do no believe there is enough research that shows MTHFR causes miscarriage, but I know it does... after my aunt found out she had it after her 6 miscarriages, she was told to take extra folic acid along with her prenatals, and a baby asprin a day, and then she was able to have a healthy pregnancy and healthy son.
I am also wondering if there are any other success stories about ladies who have MTHFR that were later able to have a baby after starting the extra folic acid????
I am just very nervous about losing another baby... I don't think I could handle it...

Crystal,

I am also sorry for your loss, but hopefully can give you some hope. I also have MTHFR, I was diagnosed after losing two pregnancies. Despite my losses, I am now looking at my 3 month old son! There is hope. After my second loss and the diagnosis I started taking prenatal vitimans, extra folic acid (in the am and pm), and baby asprin. I also started drinking wheat grass daily, which doesnt taste good but is loaded with great nutrients.

Best wishes on your journey, stay positive.

Thank you so much, that helps relieve my fears!! My aunt was also able to have a baby after starting the extra folic acid. But I am taking my prenatals, which has 800mcgs, and an extra 800mcgs by itself... should I be taking more?? I was told to take one extra pill, but should I take more?? I take all my vitamins in the morning. I am also taking a baby asprin and Vitamin B12. I also eat a cereal with folic acid...

I took an extra pill (400) in the am and an extra pill (400) at night - was extra cautious since I was told it cannot hurt to take more. I also ate oatmeal everyday and added wheat germ and flax seed to it. This is in addition to drinking wheat grass. I guess I loaded up, but I now have my very special son.

Yes, thank you for sharing this with me. I feel better now :)
I take an extra 800mcgs also, but do not drink wheat grass. I do eat folic acid fortified cereal, though, that has other nutrients. I also drink a breakfast shake enriched with folic acid, calcium, protien, and other healthy vitamins that are good for mom and baby.
