Okay, this is going to be a weird question, but in December, our family is going to be staying in a hotel room. I am guessing the room will have two queen beds and we will bring our mini crib for Cora. At this point, our plan is to have Mark and George share one bed and Ailey and me share the other. My worry is that the last time Ailey shared a bed with anyone she was only a few days old. When we brought her home from the hospital, she slept in a bassinet next to our bed and moved to the crib in her room when she was around 4 months. Ailey occassinally sleeps in her stroller if we are out of the the house for a full day and she is just too tired to stay awake and will sleep in the car on long drives, but other than that is very resistant to sleeping anywhere except her crib. Ailey also treats snuggle time with me as play time. If she has Mommy there, it's time to start talking and exploring. Even when she is very tired, she will not fall asleep while I am holding her or lying with her. She just seems to find the presence of another person too stimulating and exciting to sleep through. I am trying to figure out how we are going to keep this hotel stay from turning into a situation where noone gets any sleep because Ailey won't stay in bed or lie down and cries if we try to make her. Any ideas? How do I get my toddler to sleep in a bed with me?

Is there a way you could bring a pack and play with you to the hotel room for Ailey? Maybe if she takes a few naps in it at home before your trip or spends a few nights in it in your room at home she will get use to the idea of others in the room with her and when you bring it she'll adjust better? Some hotels have cribs they let you borrow/rent for the night too.

Every hotel we have ever stayed at (and that is quite a few, now) has at least a packn'play for babies. Some have actual cribs. I would suggest you have the hotel provide one of these for Ailey and let Cora use the one you bring. it will still be a little strange for her since you will be in the room, but with the lights out, she will probably adjust quickly.

Liam, like Ailey, only sleeps in his crib, too, but he has done pretty well so long as he has his own place to sleep. Every now and then he did seem to get scared when we were on trips and wanted to get in bed with us, but since it was the middle of the night he fell asleep pretty quickly once he was laying next to us. I hope that helps.

I think we are going to ask for a pack and play. In the past, I had heard from other moms that hotel cribs have been dirty and rickety in their experience, so I was leary of requesting one, but after reading these replies and hearing from several moms in the FB group that they have gotten perfectly fine new pack and plays in their recent travels, I think that will work. We do also have a pack and play, but I was concerned with not being able to get it in our vehicle with the mini crib, three car seats and everyone's stuff. Yea for having a solution!

Ailey has stayed in a hotel room (in our mini crib) once before and it was a miserable experience it was right after George's hip surgery and he decided that it was funny to try to keep Mark and I from sleeping. Between that and Ailey being extremely unhappy about being expected to sleep in a strange place with other people in the room and no access to her crib, one of the two was awake setting the other off literally all night and Mark and I got no sleep. I think that experience has left me a bit intimidated about the idea of having our kids together in a hotel again.

I've got no idea if you've got the budget for it, but we just bought a Baby Bjorn travel crib and I LOVE it. It's expensive (amazon.com has it for $220), but I know we're going to get a tonne of use out of it, plus it'll hold it's value for resale. It's like a pack n play, but it's only 10lbs and it'll fit between the rear facing car seat the the seat in front of it. We're going to use that for Callie on holidays and the baby is going to sleep in the peapod.
