Has anyone else struggled with their p/n vitamins? I'm not 100% sure they are the culprit, but I seem to feel worse when I take them. I know this can happen because of the high levels of vitamins. My sister struggled because of the amount of iron in hers. Any ideas? Also, should you stop taking a daily multivitamin if you're on p/n vitamins? My doctor also has me taking extra Vitamin D, and Fish Oil. The D because I am defficient, and the Fish Oil because I have high cholesterol, and bad "good" cholesterol to boot. Any advice would be great. Or any suggestions on a particular brand.

my doc said it might help to take them at night so you wouldnt notice the sickness as much or to drink them with warm flat sprite. as for the other vit i would call your dr and ask i have heard that you can take too many but i think that is for women who do the pills plus the shakes and all that other stuff. hope you get to feeling better soon the 2nd tri will be here before we know it and hopefully the m/s stays away then :)

Hmmm, not sure if it is the prenatal for me as well, but I have had bad diarrhea pretty consistently. I know they can be tough on the stomach. Good luck to you and feel better!

I think it can be the iron that makes them not so fun, I've read that you could try getting ones with less iron (but then you lose the benefit of the iron..), take them at night, and take them with food to help stop the nausea. I've seen the gummy bear ones which might be easier on the stomach?

I take the One A Day prenatal with the extra DHA (fish oil) pill and an extra folic acid. No more regular multi-vitamin for me. I can't say it would be a huge problem, but too much of a good thing can have negative effects on your body. The vitamins used to upset my stomach, so now I just take them before bed and the problems are gone!

I take the generic rite aid prenatals that come with a fish oil with dha. they actually taste really good and don't make me nauseous like the ones from the pharmacy that the doc prescribed. the multi has no flavor and the fish oil has a nice vanilla flavor.
i take mine at night when i eat dinner. in the morning used to make me nauseous.
i wouldn't suggest taking a regular multi along with a prenantal. a prenantal is basically a multi with some extra amounts of 'important for pregnant women' things like iron and folic acid, so adding it to a regular multi is the same as taking 2 multi vitamins, which i think is a bit much.

Thanks ladies! I'll try taking them at night and hopefully that will do the trick.

If taking them at night doesn't work, try splitting them in half and taking half at breakfast and half at dinner. With my first DS even taking Flinstone Vitamins made me terribly sick.

Taking them at night has helped me. Also my dr suggested taking the gummy p/n vitamins. His wife swore by them when she was pregnant.

I've been on a couple of pre-natals but the one that I am taking now is a wholesome vitamin called BABY AND ME, from where I work. (It's a local health food grocery store). When I first read the bottle, it said I should take 4 a day. I was like WTF, 4? I asked the department manager and she said because it's a wholesome vitamin, all organic with fruits and vegetable derived ingredients, blah blah blah, than I should take 4 a day to get 100% of the folic acid from the prenatal.
Is anyone else taking a wholesome p/n vitamin?
Anyway. I have noticed that when I take them my stomach hurts but I try to take them with food so it's not on an empty stomach.
I've also heard from my mom you can take them at night too.
I don't think I would be taking a multi on top of it. I think that's a lot of extra vitamins for your body. You could always ask your doctor if you're really worried of the effects it has.

Hope you're feeling better!

when I was having problems with my prenatals my doc told me that as long as you're taking a DHA supplement along with it you can just take children's gummy vitamins. just double the dose. these were SOO much easier on my stomach than the regular prenatals, and since I'm taking two a day I can split them up if I'm feeling especially nauseated.

yes i am taking a whole food one as well (new chapter organics). I have to take 3 a day plus i am taking a dha supplement (1 a day). I take it 3 times a day with food and it has been fine. The only one that has given me some trouble is my morning once (which is when i take the dha as well - so it's probably bc of that). Im going to try switching the dha to my evening dose and see if that helps.

Practically any food can make me sick nowadays, but I never thought I had problems with the prenatal vitamins. I think it's because I've always taken them at night. However, I'd like to add that prenatal vitamins might not be the culprit for why you're sick. With pregnancy, it can be difficult to determine what makes you feel good and what doesn't. So, I think that if you take them at night but feel badly during the day, it could be something else. It's just something to consider.
