Hello all! My name is Kelly and my DH and I had our first son in December of last year. I ended up with a c-section after my water broke and DS was breech. Although we aren't planning on trying right now, we have started to think about when we would like to start trying for #2. I would love to try a VBAC next time. I know it probably sounds crazy but I still kind of feel like I missed out on the labor experience. I'm so blessed that DS is healthy but I would really like to try and avoid a repeat c-section. My question is, is it better to wait longer in between children or does it matter at all? I'm sure my doctor will be able to answer more questions when we are ready to try for #2 but just thought I would see if you all had any experiences. Thanks so much!

'they' say to wait 18 - 24 mos between births. Others have waited less and been okay...

The baby I am currently carrying will be 18 months younger than my daughter when she is born and that is something that every doctor I talked to in looking for someone to support my VBAC brought up as an issue. Depending on the doctors I talked to, I was given recommendations of 19 to 24 months as a minimum time to wait after a c-section before attempting VBAC. My current pregnancy was unplanned, hearing that after conception wasn't especially helpful and even hearing it before wouldn't have changed anything, but that is what I have been hearing.

I was told there should be at least 18 months between c section and VBAC attempt for following baby.

Start here for some research! http://vbacfacts.com/2011/11/11/birth-intervals-uterine-rupture/ Please read article and then search her site for the words she recommends. Vbacfacts.com is an amazing resource. You can also check out www.Ican-online.org and read their white papers. At some point I will update the resource sticky and get it put back up... Were it me, I wouldn't be going in for an induction or c-section unless something was terribly wrong not because someone thought I could rupture at some point sometime maybe because the pregnancy interval wasn't what 'they' thought it should be... ;)

With my first c-section my doc told me that I couldn't have a baby within 12 months if I wanted to try a vbac, so I got pregnant 9 months after baby was born. My first attempt at vbac didn't work out, but my doc then told me that we'd have to keep an eye on a bunch of factors if I wanted to attempt it again and 18 months was ideal between babies. Well, #3 was just born 17 months after #2 and was a successful vba2c. But I met all the criteria my doctor laid out before he'd be comfortable letting me try... Baby had to be in the right position (of course), ultrasound had to show her to be under 10lbs (and she was), and the ultrasound of the scar on my uterus had to show it was thicker than 3.5mm (it was 7mm).
Good luck!
