I meet my midwife for the first time today and I was very impressed. She spent 1 and 1/2 hours with me! She answered all my questions and made me feel so much better!

The part of the appointment was hearing my babies heart beat!

Is anyone else going with a midwife? I am not sure if my husband is completely on board :(

That is so cool that you found a great midwife!! I am sure your husband will warm up to the idea once he sees how excited/confident you are with the plan. I am technically going unassisted at my homebirth but will have two great girlfriends with knowledge and experience in attending homebirths. My husband comes from a very conservative family background but he is very openminded and is onboard for my plan. He is not a reader at all, but I will be getting him books that hopefully will give him more insight on the process. I think they will be really excited in the end :)

We have a midwife as well! I wouldn't change it for the world. The care she provides can't be touched by anyone. Not only will she be attending our home birth, but she has also become a great friend through my first pregnancy. I love our midwife!

I go though midwives but I am thinking that maybe midwifes here may be different. I still go to the hospital for my appts, they work with the doctors, and I deliver at the hospital too. I find that the main difference between the doctors and midwives is that they aren't so "by the facts" and theyreally take the time to talk to you and make sure you know whats going on and are comfortable.

I wish I could! I had a midwife and a homebirth last baby, but retained placenta and started hemorrhaging so my safest option is a hospital birth this time (that was my second delivery in which is happened, so I know it's not a fluke, it's just how my body works...) :(
Thankfully my labors are quick and I have a doula so I should still have a significant amount of freedom and autonomy despite having to birth in a hospital.
I'm jealous! I loved my midwife. My husband was skeptical too, but ended up coming around.

yes, it sounds very similar here. You have an option of home birth or hospital birth. They work in an office without docs but will work with them if there is risk.

I am pretty sure that I will give birth in a hospital as my past labor was not ideal :(

I had a midwife with my first and for this pregnancy as well. I absolutly loved the care I received throughout my first pregnancy. They really took the time to know you and they make you feel that you are in charge of your own pregnancy. I have the same midwives for this pregnancy, and they remembered me and my daughter recalling details of her birth! It makes you feel good knowing that you are someone they care about, rather than just another number.
Hope you have a great experience!

I would like to have a midwife but last i looked into it (a couple yrs ago) there were none in my area at all. i think the closest i found was 1 1/2hrs away:( but i've had the same doc for 12 yrs now(he's ob, and family ped for all my kids and dh) and we love him, so it's ok.

I initially signed up for a midwife, but due to twins, they had to change it to a high risk pregnancy doctor. What a switch!

All I know is that my babies will receive great care with this new doc. so that's what I'm happy about.

Hope that your DH will be on board. I think it takes a little while for things to "click". :)
