I was traveling this weekend, and as I was waiting at the gate, a woman was pretty irate about a situation that happened on her flight she just got off. Apparently at some point during the flight, a man behind her was reaching over her seat and spilled something on her and some of her baggage. According to her, her dress she had been wearing and her carry on baggage was ruined. She was demanding that the airline compensate her.

The person at the gate told her that while they feel bad for her situation, they cannot be responsible for the actions of another passenger.

Do you think the airline should bear any responsibility or offer any compensation?

No. Unless it was a flight attendent that spilled something, I don't think the airline needs do anything about it.

No.

People acting like they are the only individuals on the planet and every accident that happens as a result of not being the on human being left alive are such a huge burden that someone needs to take care of.

this woman was pretty upset that they pretty much flat out said, sorry we are not responsible for an individual passenger spilling things on the plane.

I 100% do not think the airline has any responsibility in this case. I probably should not be, but I am always surprised at what people think they are entitled to.

If her dress meant that much to her, she could sue the man that spilled it. I assume they swapped information and she took a witness account from him?

No, they have no responsibility. However, I have seen where a passenger spilled on themselves and were given a credit voucher for one of the shops in the airport to get something dry when they had a connecting flight. That would have been nice of the gate people to offer if they could. But I don't think they needed to do it.

I don't think the airline has any responsibility and I really don't think she should expect the man who spilled on her to replace the dress.
