Hello I'm new to this board, I've been nursing DS for almost 15 months and I'm expecting #2, a girl, in October.
I had originally planned to have DS weaned but I don't want to force him, I have to cut out overnight feedings mostly due to severely sensitive nipples and crazy hormonal emotions. We are down to just 2 sessions a day, sometimes less, right before nap and right before bed and he doesn't nurse very long anymore maybe 10 minutes. I know he might fully wean before October but I'd like to be prepared in case he doesn't, so any tips, advice, stories or links you could share would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hello and welcome! I tandem nursed my two youngest boys for about a year until my older son self weaned. The only thing I did was only nurse my newborn the first couple of days so he got the colostrum. Once my milk started to come in on day 3 I nursed both of them on demand. My older son was so amazed with his new baby that he did not even ask to nurse the first two days so it worked out well. After my milk came in he nursed more than he had while I was pregnant. I think he loved all the rich milk after just getting small amounts of colostrum for months before hand. It helped me have great supply so that was nice! After awhile he slowed back down to his once or twice per day. For a few months he nursed several times a day though. Here is a great link to info I found really helpful when I was planning to tandem nurse....

It sounds like you're weaning him the right way. When I weaned my two year old, I went for months beforehand only nursing her once at night. However, if you want to wean your child before the new baby, I think you should do it soon. Otherwise, if you wean him right before the new baby comes, he could become jealous of the other baby nursing and might want to start again. I'm just saying that could be a problem you'd want to avoid. That's one of the main reasons I weaned my LO when I did, because I'm expecting a second child, too. :-)
