Okay so this may be a dumb question to some of you, but I can't seem to find a clear cut answer to this anywhere.....

Is it okay for me to help paint the nursery? Or is this something that the hubby should be doing solo? I want to help so bad because I feel useless. Lol. But obviously I don't want to put the baby in any danger.

I would wear a mask. If you can find one that reduces the paint fumes would be best. I would also leave the house for at least the night because the fumes will still be in the house.

The landlady painted the downstairs suite before the new tenants moved in, I slept at my moms place because of the fumes. My husband and landlady couldn't smell anything. This was before I was pregnant. The fumes were triggering my asthma. It was a water based paint she was using.

Funny you should mention painting, DH and I are getting some paint tonight so I can get to work when the weather cools down the next few days. I want to get it done before the school year rolls around. I'm going to wear a mask and make sure to keep windows open and a box fan running. Thankfully the baby's room isn't huge so it shouldn't take all that long. DH doesn't really want me to paint either but I figure, I'm not doing all that much anyways. Why not?

Yeh our baby room is pretty tiny. Hubby will paint the 3 big walls and I think I will just do the itty bitty wall that will be the different color. It's nice and cool an breezy here today and we have lots of fans so I think it will be fine. At night I will just lose the door. I just want to get it done before we leave on vacation so that when we get back we basically are "ready" (loose term lol) and just have to wait for baby :)

My only other addition is - I believe you are supposed to look for low VOC paint. I think that is the fume part. Not sure if all are all low VOC now. But the paint guys should know.

Oops, "close" the door, not "lose" the door. Ha ha ha

So you got me thinking about painting so I emailed my doc about it. Her response was that latex-based paints are fine but to avoid oil-based paints (like you would use outside).

It's fine, just make sure the room is well ventilated.

I'm going to paint the nursery in a few weeks and all I was told is use low VOC paint and ventilate.

Oh I know. I'm just a total worry-wart by nature. It's just me being silly that's all. I just don't feel as stupid when I confess my weirdness to all of the girls on here. There is bound to be one other who has a silly mind like mine. Ha ha ha

I wore a mask and had 2 fans and the window open. I'm sure it was just fine :)
