For this poll you should:

Select names you see as mythological/legendary (including saints) girl names

Choose the 5 best options on the list (even if you dislike all options)

As far as spelling, as long as you still associate the name with the myth/legend and as a girl name, vote for the name even if it's not your favorite spelling (i.e. Kalliope vs Calliope, Bridget vs Brigid).

there are kind of a LOT of names for this style that I decided to include. We will narrow them down at some point!

I voted for Agnes, Anat, Arinna, Athena, and Aurora. I am most familiar with Agnes, Athena, and Aurora, and Anat and Arinna are new to me, but I really love them (so I was willing to give up other names I love like Atalanta and Astraea).

I thought these two goddesses (Anat and Arinna, both from the ancient Middle East) were pretty neat.

Anat (a Semitic goddess, sister of Ba'al), when she finds what she believes to be her brother's body, buries it and has a funeral feast, finds the god she believes killed her brother (Death "Mot") and attacks him (cut in two, burnt, and scattered over the earth should do it, right? but somehow Mot eventually returns).

Arinna is called actually 'the sun goddess of Arinna', so the name of the actual goddess is a little different and Arinna is the place where she was worshipped.

not really sure about correct prn, so I'm just guessing with these names!

Maybe we should've separated Mythological and Legendary names into two separate polls? :P I don't know...they seem slightly different to me. Mythological is more ancient times, gods and goddesses, that kind of thing. But Legendary is more...I guess, Renaissance to me. Like King Arthur, Camelot, etc. I don't know..maybe it's just me. :P

ok Danielle!

Ariel - you might be right. I thought about dividing these polls in various ways but then decided that I would need to sift through names and decide which ones belonged where, and so I'm just letting everyone else do that instead.

I was surprised by how many of these I liked. I voted for Aja, Aya, Aura, Astraea, and Beyla. How do you say Aine?

Andromeda, Appolonia, Athena, Aurora & Beyla got my votes. Would have loved to see Artemis on the list too. BTW, Beyla is FANTASTIC! Love it! :)

I will put Artemis on the next poll. As you all know, you can usually suggest a name and it still get included, in this case especially as there will be so many.

On Beyla - Wikipedia offers this:

the meaning of her name is unclear and her name has been proposed as related to "cow," "bean," or "bee."

She is a character in Norse mythology, servant of the god Freyr.

I had never heard of the character or name, but it seemed kind of cool so I included it.

Aine is a more original spelling of Enya (or Anya).

Again, Wikipedia:

an Irish goddess of summer, wealth and sovereignty. She is associated with midsummer and the sun

another name website, which will remain nameless, calls her the queen of the fairies and says the name means radiance (which goes with her being a sun goddess or goddess of the summer).

so maybe the next time someone is looking for a summer themed name you can suggest Aine. Does the pronunciation change things for you?

No, I still like the other names better, but Aine still looks cool. Prn "anya/enya" sort of deflates the coolness for me. I still like the name, but..... *shrug*
