Just before I became pregnant I was diagnosed with having heartburn. Does anyone else have this? What are you taking for medication? I hate that on all the meds both prescribed and over the counter they say talk to you physician if pregnant. I HATE taking meds. I haven't been taking them because I don't want to risk anything. The Dr. did tell me they were OK but then why the warning?! I am probably making a big deal out of nothing but I would feel better if I knew others had/did do it.

Thanks!
Jessica

As a nurse, I know that those labels are put on the box to cover the physician and medical care teams butts if something should happen. Malpractice insurance rates are through the roof, so it's usually just an extra precaution.

My situation is different. (Short version) I have been TTC for a year and ended up having an IUI to get pregnant. I ended up having a chemical pregnancy, but my list of approved meds by my OB that I was taking included Prilosec. I have GERD and a hernia, both of which are pretty severe. If your heartburn is occasional...try tums or rolaids. IF it's more severe, ask your doc about a Zantac or Pepcid, but remember...these usually take a few days to work and need to be taken over the course of a few weeks. What did your doc say to take?

I normally take Prilosec, but when I'm pregnant I only take Tums. I know it's not as good but I was told that I shouldn't take the others - Prilosec, Prevacid, etc. I would ask your doctor for sure. Good luck!

Have you tried Tums? They helped me last time I was pregnant.

My friend was told by her OB that she could take Nexium. I had surgery for my reflux 9 years ago and it is flaring up already with this pregnancy :(

I only get heartburn when I am pregnant so I just eat tums. The Dr can prescribe something safe in pregnancy for you if nothing is helping also.

Thanks everyone! I have a prescribed med. of omeprazole 40mg which I haven't been taking. I have tried Tums a few nights, which don't help, and probably because like you said I haven't built it up. I am the type that tries to "tough it out" and I only take something if I really need it. I get symptoms every night...nothing I can't bare. I just worry because I know that acid there isn't good for me either...my dad died from upper GI cancer and he suffered from heartburn for as long as I can remember. I honestly think the two are connected.
I have my 1st appt on the 16th so I will wait and talk with her about it then!
