First, and foremost, only vote for the name if you feel it fits this style. Virtue is a little broad here, as it might be a verb or adjective or adverb and not just the noun that represents the virtue. But it should be this style of name. I did not call it Puritan names simply because that includes other sorts of names that Puritans used besides virtue names (such as Praise-the-Lord. Praise would be a virtue name and fit this category, Praise the Lord would not). It is different from hippie names because hippie names includes names that aren't necessarily virtue names (Meadow fits the Hippie style but not the Virtue). I don't always come out and define the style so explicitly but I do want to keep that distinction here.

So
1- only vote for a name if you consider it to fit the style of virtue names
2-for this poll, only vote for those virtue names you find appropriate for a girl
3- choose the 5 best names that fit the first two criteria

Also, feel free to suggest additional virtue names you feel should be included, including boy names, as the list I have for boys is very short.

I had 6 picked out but eliminated Faithful. I like it as much as some of the others but had to eliminate one and I guess I've liked these others longer.

I chose Blythe, Faith, Grace, Constance, Comfort

I'm almost wondering if I should have kept Faithful and gotten rid of Grace. Hmm.

Is this all the names for the girls?! I must've missed the name suggestion for this. I can't believe I would forget to suggest Patience for this. It's my favourite virtue name. ♥

This is the first of 2 polls for the girl names, and Patience is on the second poll.

Awesome. :) I was worried since there were so few names on this one. Guess I'm used to have more choices in one poll. :P

So what names do you have for the boys? I know you said it was small. Maybe I could add some?

Thank you! No one had suggested Royal, and some of your suggestions weren't on the boy poll (such as Truth and Honor. True was on the boy poll but I added it to the girl list as well and though I added Truth to the girl list, I didn't put it on the boy list, so I will now.) Brave, Loyal, Chance, Noble (written as Nobel), and Honor were all on the list already. But thanks for making sure they get included! Also, yes, I think Royal does fit. It's not exactly like Noble which connotes a personal value or quality, but I think it 'feels' like it belongs.

Thank you Ariel. No one had suggested most of those. I think only Merit and Valor were already on the list.

Geri and Ariel - Thanks so much for your suggestions. It's now a respectable poll and I won't feel so embarrassed posting it!

This girl post feels short because it only has 19 names and there are usually 30. However, more than 30 names were suggested (or, by the time I added names there was more than 30) just not so many as 60, which would have been 2 full polls. So each poll is just a little shorter this time, for the girls, but it was still a good amount of names. Just the boy list was sparse and I only came up with so many on my own.

Hmm, I guess if I could re-vote I would choose Blythe (for the Joyful meaning), but I only associated it w/ the meaning: "Showing a casual and cheerful indifference considered to be callous or improper". Not great. I really like the name, just never thought it was a "virtue" name...

you're right, I hadn't thought about the possible negative interpretation of blythe. I always thought of someone who has the 'casual indifference' in a positive way, like they're so happy that nothing gets them down, so you tell them they're losing their job and they don't seem to mind, nothing ruffles them but not because they're unfeeling, they're just focused on all the good things in life. But of course it does have that other meaning.
