My "little" boy baby expects food after every diaper - he's 9 weeks, 15 lbs, and wants a full bottle or breastfeed after every diaper, wet or dirty. If he doesn't get it, he screams. His doctor thinks, since he's at the very top of the growth charts, that he might be eating for comfort. I've tried paccies, I've tried the "mommy paccy" - my finger, and I've tried burping, skin-to-skin, and just plain rocking him. No go. It must be food. Anyone have advice on how to break the association between diapers and food?

What does your doc say about giving him water? It could help ease his demand for oral intake, help you determine if he really is hungry or just wanting the attention involved with a feeding. If you don't mind I would like to know what your doc says and what works. GOOD LUCK!

If he's on breastmilk, I would let him have all he wants. Babies don't generally overeat... just eat what the need. I nurse on demand, and would nurse him when he wants it. If it happens to be after every diaper change, then so be it! How many diaper changes does he have in a day? My DD usually has around 8 diaper changes in a day, and I'd say I nurse her about as many times. She is also 9wks old. Actually, I usually nurse right after a diaper change (since she often falls asleep right after nursing!) Also, being near the top of the growth charts is not necessarily a bad thing. Some kids grow faster than others, and just as adults come in all shapes and sizes, so do kids. Unless there is a specific health condition, I'd feed him when he wants.
