Baby Names Suggested by Family - Help!

My family is requesting that I name my daughter "Marge" after a deceased relative. They feel that it is a very special name because of our relative, but I feel that my child may be teased. They are not open to any alternatives to the name either (i.e. Margaret, Margery). What is everyone's opinion? Do you think my child will be teased or be upset with me at some point for naming them this?

If it was me I would calmly tell them that if they wish to name a child Marge then they are more then welcome to have own child or adopt one and name it that. Marge is not a name I would name my child. The other 2 names are fine. This is your baby and you should name it something you want not what others want. The only peoples opinion on a name that matter is the mothers and fathers. Only exception is if there is a reason someone hates a name and it would be hurtful(like naming a child after an abusive relative).

Thanks for your response - Not sure what my husband and I will name our child, but was wondering more on people's opinions of the name "Marge." Would you ever name your child this? What thoughts do you have on the name?

Nope, that name is not one that would go with my family. There is a old family friend by that name(she was my dad's boss at his gas station). But it is truly a name I do not like.

If your family loves the name so much why hasn't anyone else used the name is what I would wonder. And as for the name sorry but I don't care for it at all... however it is YOUR child and YOU have the right to name it anything YOU decide regardless of anyone else's in put

You could put Marge as the middle name. Nowadays people often put a relative in the middle name as a tribute and then give a unique first name. Marge seems kind of out of date.. I always thought it was short for Marjorie but I guess not. Your family should let you make the final decision without pressure. My mother in law said her mother in law pressured her to name one of her sons after a grandparent and she still regrets it to this day.

I think you should have a final say of your baby name, but adding it as a middle name is a good idea.

Marge?!
All I think about is the wife from "the Simpson" not a family member, that name is. It cute at all, if it was than someone else in the family would have named their own kid that. The way I see it is, I will name my child what I want not what YOU want! You didn't get on top of me and made this baby with me, so nothing there, no opinion! Go with what you and your husband feel its right. Don't make them let you feel pressured to name her this name! I know I won't!

I"m not a fan of the name Marge, it sounds more like a nickname for Margaret or Margie etc...I also think of The Simpsons LOL

You need to put your foot down to your family, its YOUR kid...YOUR name!

sorry but if you named your daughter Marge she would definetly get teased for having the name of the simpsons marge. Can you imagine blue hair, mrs simpson etc. mmm... no way
